Introducing Em

This is Em, my new partner in crime. You will be seeing a lot of her in the future on this blog. She is right now working as an assistant for a stylist here in Berlin. Together we have a lot of projects going on and you will shortly see some examples of our work together. As I have written before I am not a fashion photographer but I enjoy shooting it when I have Em by my side. Her sense for style is beautiful, smart and vivid. It's such a nice feeling when you meet someone with the same vision as yourself...

When I went to art-school several years ago I began to look at images in a new way. Before going I tried to make images that other people would like. It didn't really matter if I left my mark on them, or if I even liked them that much. But art-school changed that and it made me realize that what matters, is that you find the beauty in what you do. That's why I haven't shown a painting since the grad-show in 2006. I don't want people to look at them, they are for my eyes only. When I do photography it's different in the way that, I get to make art together with someone that I find interesting, intriguing or that I just simply happen to love. I believe that this is one of the main reasons to why I photograph people. It's the interaction and the accidental, the fact that things I can't imagine just happens. I recently realized that I have the tendency to adapt myself to my objects. What I mean is that, of course I have my own personal style but I don't narrow myself down and make it the only expression during a shoot. It's more important to be aware of the person you're shooting and the kind of energy he or her provides, the rest will follow. Susan, in the images below has a very delicate and quiet character which leaves you with the desire of wanting to know more. I'm in love with her red hair and her pail skin. She truly is beautiful...

Sauntering kindles

Helen and some thoughts...

Photography is one of the most important things in my life. I believe I take pictures to justify my own existence. I truly believe that the human being is most happy when she is creative. We are built to make things, it's in our nature. But it's important to not take yourself and in my case photography too serious. A photograph doesn't have to say something special to everybody, it doesn't have to be breathtaking but it should be interesting in one way or the other.
Nan Goldin once said that she took photos to remember what she got but the photos ended up reminding her of what she lost. I think that is beautiful, sad and so true. So what I am doing on this blog is showing you pieces of my memory. I will always remember when Helen came to visit me in Berlin and I took a bunch of portraits of her against my white wall in my room. We had a blast taking them and having a blast is also one of the most important things in my life.

Mari

Mari is a japanese girl who is now living in Berlin. When I first saw her I just knew I had to take her portrait. You never know who's gonna be photogenic but Mari definitely lived up to the expectations. She got such a beautiful face and a lovable personality. In this photo I asked her to remember something sad that had happened to her and I feel like she really captured something real. This is why I like this photo so much.

Sondre Lerche Live in Berlin

Förra veckan hade jag det stora nöjet att träffa Sondre Lerche igen. Han var i Berlin för att spela på Astra. Efter att ha turnerat runt i USA så är det nu dax för Europa. Jag tog självklart chansen att hänga med på spelningen och fotografera. Jag brukar inte plåta konserter på grund av flera anledningar men framför allt tror jag det handlar om att jag inte har någon direktkontakt med den jag fotograferar och att det är lite bökigt eftersom jag är kort. Men det var annorlunda denna gång. För det första kunde jag röra mig relativt fritt med mitt backstage pass och för det andra så känner jag Sondre och kunde vänta in bilden där jag tycker att hans karaktär kommer fram. Det var en riktigt skön konsert och Sondre är verkligen en fantastisk artist.

Det finns oftast en bild som står ut efter en fotografering, den där bilden som man känner något speciellt för. I detta fallet är det den tredje i ordningen som jag anser har det där som oftast inte går att sätta fingret på men som känns i magen. Vill du se dom större är det bara att klicka på bilderna.

Mi Tjio

Efter en intensiv sommar då jag egentligen bara befann mig på tre ställen, kemifabriken, bakom kameran eller framför datorn arbetande med bilder till kunder och nya hemsidan behövde jag en paus ifrån allt. Igår hade jag min första riktiga fotografering sedan flytten hit för 3 veckor sedan och jag blev igen påmind om att jag inte skulle kunna göra något annat. Känslan av att fotografera är mäktig och resulterar i ett skönt lyckorus. Men det krävs att det är en bra fotografering också. En fotografering som känns sådär bra i magen efteråt och som gör en aningens hög. Att man känner att man fått en connection med sitt objekt och att man lärt sig något nytt. Och den känslan fick jag verkligen av att fotografera Mi Tjio. Mi är en talangfull konstnär som efter flera års konststudier i Hong Kong nu har flyttat ihop med mig här i Berlin. Vi är goda vänner sedan många år och det känns kul att vi tillslut lyckades göra något tillsammans. Jag har fotograferat henne tidigare i sommar och det var ett nöjde även denna gång. Vi drog runt i Berlin och försökte hitta speciella ställen. Vi var ute i 3h och det resulterade i några av de bilderna du ser här nedan. De första bilderna är tagna där Berlinmuren en gång stod.
Nytt denna vecka är att jag varit på möte med den tyska fotografen Lars Borges (www.larsborges.de). Det var meningen att vi skulle ses över en kopp och prata 1 h men det blev 3 intensiva timmar innan han skulle på nytt möte. Vi diskuterade foto och livet, något som vi båda tycker är sammanflätade. Jag fotograferar för att uppleva saker och människor. En kamera är ett starkt socialt vapen som passar mig perfekt. Det var mycket givande att prata med Lars som precis som jag är porträttfotograf. Han ska bli pappa i november och har dragit ner på jobben men förhoppningsvis får jag tillfälle att assa honom några gånger under min vistelse. David Fischer är just nu i Paris, men tanken är att jag även ska assa honom när han kommer tillbaka. Tills dess ska jag försöka väcka tyskan till liv igen genom att läsa en kurs. Högstadiet here I come...
